For those folks who do yoga every day, it becomes a part of our regular, part of our lives. A day without yoga is like a day without breakfast. Sure, you can do it but you just don’t feel right. I’m a morning yoga individual. At six o’clock in the morning when most individuals are still grasping to that last hour of sweet, sweet slumber till they need to drag themselves up to go to work, I’m up yoga-ing myself awake.

    What to do?

I do not do anything too tough. It’s just enough to prepare for the day, and it makes a major difference. If you have sprained and your ankle, you might be thinking,”can I do yoga on a sprained ankle?” Sure, there are lots of positions that don’t put too much pressure on your ankle, and extending the joint is essential for rehabilitation. There are various reasons why you may do yoga on a sprained ankle. But I feel that the reasons why you need ton’t are far more important. Yoga, though important to us, isn’t a crucial thing in our own lives.

We like to believe so, but when we stop yoga for a week, even for a month, we won’t forget everything we know and our bodies won’t fall apart. We won’t become potato chip-munching slobs lounging in front of the TVs reminiscing about our day of yoga. Stopping yoga in this period of time is crucial to give our bodies the rest it needs. After an injury, especially an ankle injury, our bodies become out of balance.

    Take note

We will need to restore that balance before we start to exercise it. Doing yoga on a sprained ankle, you clearly run the risk of re-injury into the sprained ankle. Especially with an accident that hasn’t completely healed, you’re more prone to additional stretching or tearing of ligaments. Perhaps the most significant point is this.

Although a lot of yoga postures don’t put much strain on the ankle region, that amount of pressure that you are not eager to wear the tender ankle is going to be moved to somewhere else on your body. The extra pressure that was originally not supposed to be distributed in this manner could lead to stress or even harm to other parts of the body.

So ask yourself, “Why do I do yoga”. To get fit? To feel better about myself? To keep my body healthy? All these reasons and likely any other reason you can think of is negated by the risks involved of doing yoga on a sprained ankle. Yoga on a sprained ankle not only becomes a fruitless activity, it might be dangerous.

    Conclusion

So in the event you’ve sprained you ankle and are contemplating continuing yoga courses or doing yoga at home, you’d better think twice. Remember, you can always begin again later. In the scale of a life, 1 month is nothing. Take some time off wait until your sprained ankle is fully recovered. Perhaps once you come back to your yoga routine you will feel a little rusty, but it is going to be easy enough to get back into a groove. Re-injuring your ankle or worse, injuring another part of your body could lead to an even longer recovery period.
