Unless you live in a bubble, or you live the life of an unabomber you are constantly exposed to sickness and someone who is sick. It is not practical or desirable to keep yourself away from all human (source of most illness) contact in an attempt to avoid being exposed. It is possible to strengthen your immune system to make you immune to most disease-causing bugs.
Immune system
The most common ones to be protected against are the flu and cold bugs. Even if you have a strong immune system, there will still be times when something can get through and you will fall ill with the flu or cold. It becomes a matter of how quickly you can get over it. You’ve probably noticed that most over-the-counter cold and flu remedies don’t work. In fact, they can actually slow down the healing process.
Take note
With this in mind, I want to share natural remedies that I found helpful in speeding up recovery from colds and flu.
- Regular soap is sufficient. Antibacterial soaps can be toxic and can promote super bugs.
- Wipe down surfaces that are frequently touched (car and home doorknobs, phones, steering wheel, etc.). Avoid toxic cleaners and use hydrogen peroxide.
- Avoid toxic cleaners with hydrogen peroxide. Avoid antibiotics unless absolutely needed (drainage or rapid fever is non-clear or very fast) as it disrupts the bacterial balance and promotes super bugs.
- Get as much sleep as you can.
- The use of immune enhancing herbs (turmeric and cinnamon, cloves, echinacea and goldenseal) and supplements (vitamins C, Vitamin A, olive oil extract, bee Pollen) can be very beneficial, especially for vitamins.
- You can stop the fever by drinking a lot of fluids like teas and water. Because it can cause you to lose your ability to digest.
- Keep the cold at bay. Soups work best with mushrooms (immune-enhancing) and chicken, which has cysteine. It also thins the mucous.
- Honey and lemon can be combined to soothe a dry cough. Honey kills bacteria while lemon alkalizes the system. A few of my patients have reported that they use hydrogen peroxide in the ears when they feel the flu coming on.
Final note
They say they get relief within a week. It was something I had dismissed until recently, as an urban myth that some people believe. Dr. Joseph Mercola, M.D. changed my mind. He suggests that you put 2-3 drops of 3% hydrogen Peroxide in each ear. Wait for the stinging and bubbling to stop in about 5-10 minutes. Drain the solution into a tissue, and then repeat the process in the other ear. He claims incredible results in a matter of hours. It’s funny, but I think it is too easy and cheap to not try it if I get another cold or flu.
