Many people mistakenly believe they have a tension headache or migraine when they experience a headache. Sinus headaches are less common, and people don’t often connect their headaches to the sinuses. Sinuses can cause a variety of problems, and sinus headaches is just one. Your doctor might not be able to diagnose it correctly. It can cause severe headaches if your sinuses become very inflamed.
Sinuses
There are four sets of sinuses. Some are behind the nose, cheeks, and forehead. Another set is deeper and can cause a one-sided top-of the-head headache. The mucus can block passageways and cause inflammation of the lining. It can be caused by narrowed or swollen passages, or by dried up mucous that blocks the passages. This can cause severe headaches.
Each day, a quarter of a quart of fluid must pass through the sinuses. A blocked sinus can cause severe headaches and severe head pain. It’s hard to stop a headache from starting once it starts. You may be able, if you feel it at the beginning, to stop it from getting worse.
Pain Relief
One needs immediate pain relief. The common cold can also cause other conditions. One must be strong and endure the cold. People with a deviated septum are more likely to suffer from sinus infections and headaches. This condition is usually genetic and most people know it. Sinus inflammation can be caused by many medications, which can lead to swelling of the sinus passages and headache pain.
This is a possibility if you are taking a lot of medications. Sinus headaches can also be caused by allergies. You might be aware of allergies to pollen, mold, dust mites, and certain chemicals. If you are experiencing sinus headaches, infections, or inflammations (sinusitis), you might want to have your sinuses tested.
Sinus Infection
Sinus infections and sinus headaches are also more common than bacteria. Sinus infections aren’t usually caused by bacteria so antibiotics won’t work. You may experience headaches while traveling by plane. This could be due to stress from the pressure change. To see if this helps, make sure to treat your sinuses prior to you fly. Once you have determined that your headaches are caused by your sinuses, there are many things you can do. Avoid using sinus medication. It could make things worse.
