    The conjunctiva is a thin membrane that covers the front of your eye. Conjunctivitis is a condition where the conjunctiva becomes inflamed. It is a common type of eye problem and is known as having “sore eyes”. It spreads quickly if anyone comes into direct contact with infected people. This ailment is spread by the poor living conditions, overcrowding, and dirty environment.

    Conjuctivitis

    Conjunctivitis is characterized by inflammation of the eyeballs and undersides of the eyeslids. Initial symptoms include redness and itching, but then there may be a swelling. This condition can become serious in some cases. The pus may form while you sleep and dry out the lashes. Conjunctivitis can be caused by eye strain, infection due to virus and bacteria.

    The disease can also be caused by prolonged exposure to artificial light or excessive use of the eyes. It could also be caused by poor living habits or dietetic mistakes.

    Home Remedies

    Home remedies may also be used to treat conjunctivitis.

    • A mixture of Indian gooseberry juice and honey is an effective home remedy for conjunctivitis. After mixing the ingredients well, take a cup of Indian gooseberry juice with two teaspoons of honey. This mixture should be taken at least twice daily to treat conjunctivitis.
    • Make a decoction by mixing a handful of coriander with 60 ml water. This eye wash is excellent for treating conjunctivitis. This decoction can be used to relieve burning, pain, swelling, and inflammation. This decoction is extremely helpful in treating bronchial asthma and chronic lung disease.
    • Vitamins A and B2 are also beneficial in the treatment conjunctivitis. People should be careful about consuming foods high in these vitamins. Yogurt, butter and wholemilk are all good sources of vitamin A. Also, you can get vitamin B2 from carrots, wholemilk, green leafy veggies, pumpkin, tomatoes, mangoes, and papaya. Vitamin B2 is found in bananas, tomatoes and citrus fruits, as well as milk, almonds, green leafy vegetables, and milk.
    • Combinations of spinach and carrot juices are very effective in treating conjunctivitis. Mix 200 ml spinach juice with 300 mg of carrot juice.
