    The term “Headache” or “Migraine” is so common that we often don’t realize the extent of the pain, discomfort, and sometimes nausea that sufferers are experiencing. Many migraine sufferers find their quality of life and that of their loved ones gradually diminishing as they try to smile through their pain. Tension headaches can feel like tension on one side of the head. These headaches are often caused by stress or poor posture. This causes tightening of the muscles in your neck, upper back, and scalp.

    Headaches Types

    This type of headache is most common in women over 20, but it can happen to anyone. Migraine headaches can be intense and throbbing. They often present on one side of your head and can also include sensitivity to light and noise.

They usually occur between one to four times per day. Cluster headaches, which are similar to migraines, can be caused by increased blood flow due to the brain’s blood vessels widening.

    What can you do to manage headaches? Although most headaches do not have serious underlying causes it is rare for them to be severe. Sometimes severe headaches can be a sign that there are more serious causes, such as tumours or meningitis, or temporal arteritis. You should seek medical attention immediately if you experience severe headaches that last more than 24 hours, are persistent, or are accompanied by symptoms like vomiting or abnormal vision. If you’ve been suffering from severe headaches for a long time, your doctor should conduct a physical exam and determine if additional tests, such as a CT scan, MRI, or other tests, are necessary.

    Most headache sufferers end taking painkillers, anti-inflammatory medications, and, in the case of migraines triptans, ergotamines. As with all medications, they can have side effects. It is best to avoid them if you can. There are many things you can do to relieve headaches and migraines, even if you don’t need to take strong medication.
