Do you sometimes find your voice hoarse or squeaky? There are many reasons why your voice sounds hoarse or squeaky at times. This condition is known as Laryngitis. It is often mistaken for sore throat. The irritation of the vocal chords can cause hoarseness, or complete loss in voice.
It can be caused by viral infection, fungal infection, inflammation of larynx, smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. The most common reason for laryngitis is viral infection. This is a common upper respiratory infection that is caused by common cold. Sore throat, hoarseness, cough, difficulty swallowing, difficulty eating, swelling around the larynx and excessive saliva production from the infected person’s mouth are all symptoms of short-term laryngitis.
If you have chronic laryngitis, your symptoms may be different. Chronic laryngitis is characterized by symptoms such as viral infection, difficulty breathing, pain in the throat, swelling of the lymph nodes, and flu symptoms. Many patients prefer home remedies to taking medication for laryngitis. Home remedies are not effective for long-term laryngitis problems.

- Your vocal chords need to be taken care of – After a long day at work, or any other stressful job, it is important to take a break and give your vocal chords some rest. Talking to others at home, keep your voice down and avoid yelling. This will cause inflammation of the larynx, which can lead to laryngitis.
- Stop Smoking – Chronic laryngitis is caused by smoking. Not only does it affect the person who smokes, but it also has ill effects on passive smokers. Regular smokers will try to quit this harmful habit for their own good. Drink enough water. If our throats remain dry, it could lead to laryngitis. Keep your throat and body hydrated to prevent laryngitis. It will also help reduce other skin problems.
- Drink herbal tea – Herbal teas are made with ginger, cardamom and ginger. They keep our throat warm and prevent us from getting the flu. A cup of hot tea can be a great way to keep your throat warm and reduce swelling in the neck, face, and chest if you have cold or flu symptoms. Avoid Dehydrating Substances. If you have laryngitis in the summer or humid season, it is best to avoid dehydrating substances such as coffee, tea, and alcohol.
- Diet. Consuming lots of ginger and garlic. These foods are well-known as antimicrobial agents. It can be used to kill germs and soothe the membranes of your larynx. Warm salt water can be used to gargle several times a day. Add 1/2 teaspoon salt to an 8-ounce glass warm water. This will reduce laryngitis. Gargle with equal parts vinegar and water. As needed, gargle with equal amounts of vinegar and water four to five times daily. This is a well-known way to kill bacteria in your larynx.
