Perché un disturbo alimentare può creare dipendenza?

Depression has a substantial influence on the way we live our own lives and respond to daily situations. There’s a serious influence on someone’s mindset when a depression takes over. But, this isn’t the only effect that depression can have on the body and mind. Specifically, depression can have a severe effect on a person’s appetite.

Regardless of which came first, lots of folks simply don’t understand how serious this could really be, considering that any weight loss is a fantastic thing. I mean, how big a deal can depression induced appetite changes actually be, anyway? Actually, they can be extremely dangerous, and that is why it shouldn’t be overlooked or taken too lightly. Many of us are overweight to start with, so in the beginning a reduction in weight is often welcome, and could even assist with the early signs of depression.

Over time however, with this continuing loss of weight, health issues will gradually develop. A protracted loss of appetite can cause a number of serious health issues. A lack of eating can deny the body a number of crucial nutrients which are necessary for a person to stay healthy and strong. Dizziness and fainting can occur because of an actual malnutrition. Additionally, this lack of ingestion may result in the body’s metabolism slowing down.

One consequence of this is that the body may begin to absorb its own muscle mass to be able to save the body’s fat cells. Eventually, this may result in reduced blood pressure and slower heart rate, having detrimental effects on the heart muscle and possible heart problems. On the opposite side of the coin, many people would seek to alleviate their issues with depression by overeating, similar to people with alcohol or drug addictions overdo it. In many ways, food could be a medication as it can impact the pleasure centers in the body.

When someone feels gloomy and down, reaching for a huge plate of food (especially sweets) can make the pain and problems go away, at least for a little while. Needless to say, this strategy will frequently result in numerous physical problems later on. More often than not, the overeating will result in obesity, or to some weight reduction, which in turn can have an extremely negative effect on someone’s self-esteem.

This absence of self-pride further increases an individual’s depression and the cycle repeats, most frequently with extra weight reduction and the deepening depression that is guaranteed to follow.

When depression impacts an individual’s desire to consume, a portion of the immune system may lead to. This may start out as a simple case of the flu, and escalate into a more serious health condition, this type of pneumonia, which can be very severe, even life threatening. Additionally, a lack of eating (especially in conjunction with depression) can grow into a significant eating disorder, such as anorexia or bulimia, which may prove to be life threatening too. Overeating, and the obesity which may result, may also be the main cause of future heart attacks, strokes and diabetes too.
