We wish we had ordered the fish rather than the chicken. We wish we had taken another job. We wish we had not allow the love of our life get away. Dreaming is different. For one, a fantasy is active. Unlike fantasies, we could actually do something about a fantasy. After all, you do not”desire up” a strategy, you dream up one!

No. Ridiculing your fears is truly a very effective method for banishing them because the mind rejects what it considers absurd. The secret is to turn your fears into a ridiculous event on your mind. That way, you let your natural human response to absurdity to take over and dismiss them. Try it yourself. Take your biggest fear and take it to extremes. Really exaggerate it. Let’s say you are paralyzed with the fear of failure.

Pretty ridiculous, right? When you understand that your worst-case dream is just that — a dream — what felt overwhelming will now feel a lot more manageable. Another way to handle the fear of venturing out on your own is to start small. If the notion of just up and quitting your day job frightens you, then begin building your customer base on the side. Begin with low-risk actions and slowly work your way up into the harder stuff. Remember, courage isn’t an issue of losing your fear so that you can take actions; courage stems from taking action. And that, in turn, can help you conquer your fear. As soon as you are able to act despite your fears, you’ll be rewarded repeatedly.
