It’s a nightmare for every woman, the horrible fishy smell of another BV infection. BV, or bacterial vaginosis as it is commonly known, is the most common vaginal infections that affect almost all women at some point in their lives. It is also the most difficult to treat.
Bacterial infection
Many women are affected by chronic bacterial vaginal infections, which can lead to recurring BV infections. BV is caused by an imbalance of good and bad bacteria in the vagina. The good bacteria normally keeps the harmful bacteria under control. However, something happens that causes the harmful bacteria to grow outof control. A BV infection can often be identified by a distinctive fishy odor.
The harmful bacteria is responsible for the odor. It is also very strong, making the sufferer very self-conscious. If you can smell it, others will too. Women tend to withdraw from social activities and intimate relationships. Women resort to washing their bodies multiple times per day in an attempt to get that “fresh” feeling.

Unfortunately, this is not sustainable and the odor quickly returns. Sprays, perfumes, and douching are all common ways to mask the smell. Itching, swelling, discharge, and a strong fishy odor are all signs of a BV infection. Your family doctor will usually prescribe antibiotics like Flagyl if you are first diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis.
This can cause both the good and the bad bacteria to be eliminated from the body, making the woman more susceptible to yeast infections. Due to the yeast infections they can cause, many women are reluctant to take antibiotics. The condition and odor will generally disappear for a few days or a week, but then return with a vengeance. Recurrent BV infections are a common problem for women. Antibiotics are not the solution.
Natural ways
Natural home remedies are the best option to treat BV infections. They restore the natural vaginal flora, which balances both good and bad bacteria. It can be difficult to find the right home remedy for your BV infection. You might not find the right home remedy for you. It may take several options to treat your BV. Probiotic yogurt, plain and natural. Yogurt is our friend. Yogurt is full of good bacteria, which our digestive tract and vagina need to keep us healthy.
Good bacteria helps to keep harmful bacteria under control. To help your body get back on track, eat yogurt at least twice daily. Check the label to ensure it contains live cultures. You can also insert yogurt into your vagina if you don’t like yogurt. This can be messy but worth it. I recommend inserting at night so that you can shower in the morning. This should be done every night until the infection is gone. Oil of Oregano can be used to treat many conditions and is effective in eliminating BV infections.
Final note
To be most effective, it must be added to a shower system. Douching is not recommended as a general rule. The spraying of water can cause more problems than the BV infection. Garlic! Garlic is a natural antibiotic. The miracles of nature provide us with incredible healing products, and garlic is one of them. Garlic can be eaten on a regular basis to help fight off harmful bacteria. Some women go so far as inserting garlic, but I wouldn’t recommend it!
