Since childhood, I have been suffering from what my mom calls “sick headaches”. I tried many different migraine medications, including Imitrex, but I didn’t get any relief. Imitrex made my migraines worse than it helped.
Home Remedies
I started researching home remedies for migraines shortly after having a severe attack. I spent a lot time researching ways to manage my migraines without resorting to prescription medication. I am amazed at all the different ways people have found to treat and prevent migraines. These remedies range from homeopathic remedies to Chinese acupuncture to simple home remedies that anyone can use. These are the natural home remedies I use to manage my migraines.
Take note
- Chamomile Tea – I’ve heard that chamomile can help people relax and even fall asleep. It helped me with my migraines. I had a migraine attack and decided to try hot chamomile tea. I found that my migraines were shorter and more severe than other migraine attacks.
- Cold washcloth – Some of you might wonder how something so simple could help with the terrible headaches that affect so many people every year. This helps to relieve nausea and vomiting, which are two of the symptoms of migraine headaches. I use a cold washcloth to relieve nausea. I place it on my forehead, eyes and back. My nausea decreases and my chances of getting sick drop dramatically when I do this.
- Meditation – I have tried meditation for years to reduce my stress levels. It was never something I thought of using to treat my migraines. But, stress is a major factor in my migraines. I now listen to soothing music in dark rooms and take deep, slow breaths until my body relaxes. This helps me to forget about the stress and migraines. This has helped me to reduce the severity of my migraines.
Conclusion
Although the above methods may not work for you, there are many natural home remedies that can be used to treat migraines. I’m still trying to find ways to prevent an attack from happening and to reduce the time it takes to get one. You can also find ways to reduce the pain of painful headaches with a little research and trial-and-error.
