ICO Review: Bee Token (BEE) - Decentralized Home-Sharing Network

00:00 Hi there, this is Victoria from
00:02 In this video, I will be talking about Bee Token, a decentralized home sharing network.
00:07 Please note we are not paid or mandated to do any of our reviews, this is just our personal opinion and analysis and not investment advice.
00:15 Bee Token is a protocol that aims to eliminate the middleman in the home sharing market.
00:20 With the Beenest platform, short term home renters and tenants can directly transact with each other without any intermediaries.
00:26 Hostess and guest both benefit from the lowered Commission charge on all transactions on the Beenest platform compared to other websites like Airbnb and VRBO.
00:35 Right now, total transaction fees can range from 10 to 22 percent.
00:40 Beenest charges 0% commission to hosts and guests using the betoken.
00:44 1% commission of the use bitcoin, ether or other ERC 20 tokens and three point nine nine percent for fiat currency.
00:52 Beenest also has protocols in place for resolving disputes as well as managing reputation scores for users on their platform.
00:58 This diagram explains how the Beenest platform works along with his three protocols, the payment, arbitration and reputation protocols or PAR are for short.
01:08 First, Beenest checks the reputation of a user before allowing them to make a payments.
01:13 Beenest then initiates payment and allows that guests and hosts to pay.
01:18 If there are any disputes, the tokens are moved into arbitration.
01:22 Arbitrators get the reputation modified based on the results of the arbitration.
01:26 Beenest checks the status of arbitration to update guests and hosts.
01:31 Let me go into a little bit more detail on the core protocols of Beenest.
01:36 Hosts and guests both send their tokens to a payment smart contract.
01:41 On the checkout date, the smart contract sends tokens to the appropriate address, only if there are no conflicts.
01:45 Hosts are required to send tokens as well as a cancellation fee.
01:49 This means that if a host cancelled their listing the day before the booking, the host is also penalized.
01:56 This makes Beenest differ from most other platforms that only punish guests who cancel the reservation.
02:01 In the case of a dispute, the payment contract sends the funds to arbitration.
02:06 Bee Token holders are able to stake their tokens in order to vote on the dispute.
02:12 Arbiters are selected randomly from a pool and are penalized only if they do not make a decision within the time limit.
02:19 Beenest will have a reputation score associated with addresses and accounts on the Ethereum blockchain.
02:23 This score, will be calculated from an average of multiple reputation scores, including their scores of host, guests or arbiter.
02:30 The Beenest protocols are not limited to being used only by the Beenest platform.
02:35 Users of the platform will have a score tied to their Ethereum address which allows other decentralized apps on the Beenest platform to piggyback off the reputation scoring system.
02:46 Here are some screenshots of what the Beenest website may look like.
02:51 As you can see, available homes are shown in both US dollars or fiat currency and in Bee tokens, each listing includes a description, amenities and reviews from past customers, similar to what you may see on Airbnb.
03:03 Here is a quick summary of their development roadmap.
03:08 In the fourth quarter of 2017, the private alpha will be available in test net.
03:13 In the first half of 2018, the live alpha will be launched in San Francisco where they will be partnering with current super hoses on other platforms to try out Beenest.
03:21 The team will also launch the B protocols on test net.
03:26 In the second half of 2018, the Bee protocols will be launched on mainnet, the iOS and Android apps will also be released.
03:33 In 2019, the plan is to expand up to five US cities and onboard five to ten decentralized apps on the Bee protocol.
03:41 In 2020 and beyond, the team will target key cities worldwide including London, Seoul and Singapore.
03:48 The project has been announcing numerous partnerships with various companies that was synergize with their products.
03:55 Request network will provide a component for customers to request payments from renters.
03:59 Rentivo will provide the visibility within the travel and tourism industry and inventory while incorporating bee token in its platform.
04:08 Origin is a protocol for creating sharing economy marketplaces using IPFS, and connects will help Beenest to take payments with credit cards.
04:15 The bee token public presale will begin on January 2nd 2018, and the public crowdsale will begin on January 31st.
04:24 The hard cap fifteen million dollars, including five million dollars for the public presale.
04:29 The conversion rate is fourteen cents for one Bee token and the maximum market cap on a fully diluted basis on the ICO date is fifty million dollars.
04:38 There is a bonus of sixty to a hundred percent for advisors, friends and family members during the private presale.
04:45 The regular public presale will have a bonus of 30% to 40% but only accredited investors are permitted for the minimum purchase of fifty ether.
04:55 The USA, Canada, Taiwan and Hong Kong are excluded from the crowd sale except for accredited investors.
05:00 This chart shows how the total supply of 500 million Bee tokens will be allocated.
05:05 Thirty percent will be for the public offering, the community and company reserve will have 30 percent and 25 percent each, 15 percent will be going to the team and advisors with a two-year vesting period.
05:17 After six months, the team will receive a quarter of their allocation with the remainder to be allocated over a one point five year period.
05:25 This chart shows other proceeds from the token sale will be used.
05:28 The majority of funds will go towards engineering, marketing and business development.
05:32 For the most up-to-date information on the Bee token sale, please check their official website or their telegram Group.
05:38 Bee tokens will be used to make transactions on the Beenest platform with zero percent commission fees.
05:45 As I mentioned earlier, Bitcoin, ether and other ERC 20 tokens will have a 1% Commission fee and using fiat currencies will have a three point nine nine percent fee, so users will be incentivized to use Bee tokens.
05:58 Bee tokens can also be staked in order for users to be selected as an arbiter in Beenest's arbitration protocol.
06:05 The more tokens the user stakes, the more likely they will be chosen as an arbiter where they could get paid with Bee tokens.
06:12 The value of Bee tokens should increase with more users and more transactions on the Beenest platform.
06:19 The team consists of nine core members at the moment with four co-founders.
06:24 Jonathan Chou, co-founder and CEO, was previously a lead at uber in the security and fraud division.
06:30 Tony tran, co-founder and CTO, has over ten years of software development experience, and previously a software engineer at uber and a company that was acquired by LinkedIn.
06:41 Ali Ayyash, co-founder and lead engineer was a former lead engineer at Google cloud and at Amazon Web Services for over three years.
06:49 Min Kim, co founder and head of business development, was previously the chief of staff at civic technologies and is currently a blockchain advisor to QuantStamp, WeTrust and BitPay.
06:59 And Jordan Ong, the head of products, was a former project manager at Facebook for over seven years.
07:06 Bee token also has a suite of advisors, including a number of veterans in the blockchain space.
07:12 This includes the CEO of Quantstamp, the co-founder and CEO at enigma, the co-founder of EverCoin, the former head of trading at Kraken, a partner at blockchain Partners Korea, the founder of transform group and coin agenda and so on.
07:26 So what are the opportunities?
07:29 Beenest is a solution that can save both hosts and guesses a lot of money.
07:33 Hosts will get more profit per booking and guests can benefit from decreased rates per nights.
07:37 With growing demand for short term rentals, Beenest could gain traction pretty quickly.
07:42 The team is comprised of members with prior experience and reputable tech companies including uber, Facebook, Google and Amazon Web Services.
07:50 They also seem to have good connections based on the partnerships that they have already established and the advisors that they have brought on board.
07:57 The white paper is quite detailed and well thought-out.
07:59 The business plan provides their go-to market and user acquisition strategy which is pretty important in our view.
08:05 Without a plan to gain traction, it doesn't matter the project has the best tech in the world.
08:10 And bee token allows other sharing economy, decentralized apps to be built on top of it which increases the upside potential for the project.
08:17 And a few concerns we wanted to highlight.
08:20 Beenest is going against Airbnb which is a pretty formidable competitor and one of the most successful Y Combinator projects.
08:29 In our review, Beenest doesn't need to take down Airbnb to be successful.
08:34 The market is large and growing quite rapidly, they could serve just a subset of the market and still thrive.
08:40 And according to their development roadmap, they are targeting to expand to only five US cities by the end of 2019, which seems to be on the slow side.
08:48 It's possible they are being conservative and their platform could gain traction more quickly.
08:53 Overall from an investment perspective, we have a positive view on flipping.
08:58 The project has a strong team and many well-known advisors.
09:01 Bee token has been getting a lot of attention already and there's still a month to go before the public crowd sale.
09:06 We are usually worry of large pre-sale discounts, but with bee token, all bonus tokens are actually locked up for one month, which will prevent people from dumping the tokens after they have listed.
09:18 We think they'll be able to hit their hard cap of 15 million dollars pretty easily with unmet demand.
09:22 For long-term holding, we also have a positive view.
09:27 Beenest's home sharing idea has a large impact with substantial potential, especially since they are offering significantly lower commission fees compared to current incumbents.
09:36 The project enjoys a first mover advantage in providing a decentralized home sharing solution, we believe the team has a visionm the skill set and the connections to gain traction and capture a meaningful market share, thank you very much for watching our video on bee token.
