I will quickly tell you that there is no best migraine treatment! Don’t believe anyone who claims such a thing exists! There are only two types of things in real life and medicine: things that work and things that don’t. There are things that work for some people and things that don’t (the gravity rule, so far as I know, works for everyone but that’s another story. The first is the treatment with pharmacologic drugs, which are drugs.
Pain Killers
These include simple pain-killers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen, or combined with opioids, caffeine, and other agents. There are also anti emetics and triptans, as well as ergot derivatives. Some people are prescribed drugs as a prophylactic measure. This is to prevent them from suffering a migraine attack. There are many medications available to treat migraines. Unfortunately, some people still suffer from frequent attacks even with pharmacologic treatment. There are alternative ways to treat migraines that can be used.
Massage
Although it is not proven scientifically to cure migraines, this wonderful way of relaxing can help some people relieve tension and head pressure. Acupuncture is another option. This involves very thin needles being inserted into your skin, but not deeply. Although there has been some evidence of positive effects, it is not recommended by doctors.
Biofeedback
It has shown effective relief from migraine pain. Biofeedback, a relaxation technique, uses special tools to teach people about body reactions and how to control them or stop them from happening. For example, someone could learn to recognize stress and muscle tension.
Herbs
Some herbs have been shown to provide migraine relief. These herbs include butterbur and feverfew. Some moderate efficacy has been shown for coenzyme Q10 and high doses vitamin B2 supplements, but you should consult your doctor before taking any of these supplements. Pregnant women should not take butterbur and feverfew.
